Open Weekend is back! On 27 and 28 May you can visit Wellington Zoo and Zealandia from 9am – 5pm for just a $2 donation for entry per person.

We’re running our popular Open Weekend event again this weekend alongside Zealandia. When you visit the Zoo, your $2 donation will support local and international field conservation projects through our Wellington Zoo Conservation Fund.

Open Weekend is a great chance for those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to get up close to wildlife from home and abroad. We love giving more people in the community the opportunity to connect with the amazing animals that live at the Zoo and Zealandia to learn about how we can help protect these animals in the wild.

During your visit, make sure you head along to the various animal talks as it’s a great way to get up close to animals, like critically endangered Sumatran Tigers, Chimpanzees, Sun Bears, and Red Pandas and learn more about these amazing animals! You can also explore Meet the Locals He Tuku Aroha, which is our love story to New Zealand and includes our new walk-through Kea aviary. At Meet the Locals He Tuku Aroha you will see our Little Blue Penguins, farm animals and beautiful wildlife in the bush area.

Entry from 9am-4.15pm each day for just $2 donation per entry per person – please bring appropriate change. Donations at Wellington Zoo go to the Wellington Zoo Conservation Fund.

Getting there

Parking may be difficult as we expect this weekend to be very busy at both locations. We encourage all visitors to consider using public transport as there are limited parking spots available at the Zoo and Zealandia. Visit Metlink for bus routes and timetables.
