Brazilian Black Tarantula

We’re thrilled to give visitors a look behind the scenes at Hero HQ, our reptile and invertebrate habitat to see how we care for our Tarantulas, Giant African Millipedes, Emperor Scorpions and Goliath Stick Insects.

Participants will hear about the important role that these Minibeasts play in their ecosystem, and hopefully discover a newfound passion for invertebrates. Many invertebrate species are elusive and can be difficult spot, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer this experience to visitors and get them closer than ever before to these amazing animals.

Visitors will get to meet a few invertebrates up close during their Behind the Scenes experience and watch a Zoo Keeper health check a few of these species.

 Wellington Zoo actively supports a range of both local and global conservation projects to help save wildlife and wild places. The Zoo partners with TRAFFIC, the wildlife monitoring network which aims to reduce the extent and impact of the illegal wildlife trade. Invertebrates and Reptiles are amongst the most illegally trafficked animals in the world.

10% of proceeds from every Behind the Scenes experience will go towards conservation projects supported by Wellington Zoo.
