Years 9 - 12

The Zoo educator will guide students through the Zoo to explore adaptations of animals to their environments. Students will work through examples of different evolutionary processes that have led to the diversity of life on Earth.

Years 9 - 13

As the Zoo educator guides students through the Zoo they will have the opportunity to observe and discuss animals’ behavioural concepts. Topics may include: interspecific relationships (herbivory, predation), hierarchies, reproductive strategies and group living.

Careers at the Zoo

Years 9 - 13

Students will get a chance to experience what it’s like to work at a Zoo by touring behind the scenes and participating in an animal care task. They will explore a typical day and learn how Zoo staff gained the knowledge and skills necessary to do their work

Years 9 - 10

Through an interactive activity, students will investigate decisions regarding the use of resources, and consequences for those decisions. They will visit animals that are ambassadors of their species to learn what actions Wellington Zoo takes as conservation leaders.

Years 9 - 13

Students will explore how the land animals have changed over time and what effect introduced animals have had on the New Zealand ecosystem. Students will learn about local conservation efforts to help protect our native wildlife.
