At Te Nukuao Wellington Zoo we are very proud to be an integral part of the Wellington community for the last 118 years. To say thank you to our community for all your support, we will be selling limited, heavily discounted online tickets to the Zoo for every weekend in May.

Every week we will be releasing $10* Adult tickets, and $5* Child tickets (14 and under). Entry for under three remains free. A small booking fee will apply.

These tickets will be online only and limited in number, for each weekend in May including the public holidays. These will be released early the week before each weekend, so check our social channels for when these will be available.

REX Tremendous and the Banana Bar inside the Zoo will be open for a delicious lunch, snacks, ice creams, and drinks. Visitors are also welcome to bring in a picnic lunch. 

 

Important information

We anticipate Welcome Weekends to be very busy. Please read the following information before booking your ticket. You can also check out our FAQ section below.

• Pre-booked tickets are available the week before purchase. Please remember to book a ticket for everyone in your group. Child tickets are valid for children 3yrs - 14yrs, without pre-booked online tickets you will need to pay full price. Visitors who arrive without pre-booked tickets will need to pay full price at the entry. Zoo Crew members can visit as normal.
• Visitors must select the day when buying their online ticket/s. 
• You can arrive at any time during your booked ticket day during the Zoo's opening hours. You can stay the full day in the Zoo once you enter. To avoid any congestion at entry, arriving later in the morning is recommended.
• Scooters, rollerblades, and skateboards are not allowed in the Zoo, please leave them at home.
• Welcome Weekends will go ahead rain or shine.
• As per the terms on conditions (available on the booking form), tickets are not able to be refunded, transferred, or sold. Your ticket is valid for entry anytime between 9.30 am-4:15 pm on your booked day.

Please be aware there will be a $1 holding fee per booking that will be refunded to you the following day. This is to check the validity of the credit/debit card you are making your purchase with.

 

When should I arrive at the Zoo?

As your ticket is valid for the whole day, you can come anytime within our opening hours. We recommend avoiding arriving right at the start of the day, to ensure you avoid any congestion.

 

Can I amend my booking?

Unfortunately, we are unable to make changes to your purchase. This includes changing your date of visit or the number of visitors in your group.

All Welcome Weekends tickets are non-refundable and they are not permitted to be sold or otherwise transferred, as per the terms and conditions of sale.

 

Why do I need to book a ticket this year?

To help us manage numbers at the Zoo you must pre-book a ticket online. This will ensure you can have a great experience at the Zoo with your whānau. Visitors without Welcome Weekend tickets will be admitted, however, they will need to pay full-price entry.

 

How many tickets can I book? 

One individual can book up to 10 adult tickets and 10 child tickets in one booking. 

 

I’m a Zoo Crew member, do I need to book a ticket?

Zoo Crew members will be able to visit without booking a ticket, as per their usual entry. You are most welcome to come at any time, however you will need to queue with ticketed visitors.

 

Do I need to leave the Zoo by a certain time?

You can stay until the Zoo closes at 5 pm.

 

Can I drive my car? Our family lives far away.

There is parking near the Zoo, however, this is limited so we encourage you to take public transport, even for just part of the way, to ensure that you can visit successfully.

 

Can I store my bag at the Zoo somewhere?

Unfortunately, we do not have any storage space for your items.

 

Can I still hire a wheelchair or pushchair?

We have a limited number of wheelchairs and pushchairs for hire. Please call (04 381 6755) or email (wellingtonzoo@wellingtonzoo.com) to reserve these ahead of the event weekend to ensure you don't miss out.

 

Will there be anywhere for me and my family to eat?

The banana bar inside of the Zoo will be open for a delicious lunch. Our front entrance café, REX Tremendous will also be open.

 

What is the booking fee?

Due to our booking system, we need to pass on a booking fee and credit card surcharge per ticket, including free Under 3 tickets. These are two very small fees of under 2% and will be shown on your order before you pay.

 

Why have I been charged an extra dollar?  

There will be a $1 holding fee per booking that will be refunded to you the following day. This is to check the validity of the credit/debit card you are making your purchase with. 

 

Can I book over the phone?

No, sorry, we can’t take phone bookings for this event.

 

Is this event being run with ZEALANDIA?

While we have previously run discounted weekends with our friends at ZEALANDIA, this event is happening only at Wellington Zoo.

 

What if the weather is bad for the Welcome Weekends?

Our Welcome Weekends events will still go ahead, rain or shine.
