Animal Talks and Close Encounters will resume from Sunday, 7 March.

Close Encounters and Animal Talks will be back up and running from Sunday, 7 March as we move to Alert Level 1 at 6am. Talks and Encounters will remain suspended on Saturday, 6 March.

As an outdoor space we encourage you to visit us at Wellington Zoo. As long as you are feeling healthy and well and are not in self-isolation, the Zoo is a great place to get outside and spend some time with friends, whānau and the amazing animals. We hope to see you soon!

Are you still open?

Wellington Zoo remains open during Alert Level 1 & Level 2.


Do we need to book tickets or are you open for walk ins?

Pre-bookings are not compulsory for Zoo entry. You can buy your tickets online or at the Zoo entrance. We still encourage visitors to sign in using the NZCOVID Tracer app.


Are you accepting cash payments?

Yes we are accepting cash on-site during level 1.


Are your Zoo Talks on?

Yes, visitor talks will recommence from Sunday 6 March. 


Are your Close Encounters on?

Yes, Close Encounters and Behind the Scenes Experiences will recommence from Sunday 6 March. 


Are your Late Fridays going ahead?

Yes Late Fridays will be going ahead during Level 1 & Level 2.


Have your opening hours changed?

During Level 1 & 2 the Zoo is still open every day, except Christmas Day, 9.30am - 5pm.


I have tried to call the Zoo, but no one is answering

We are currently fielding an extremely large volume of calls and emails, we are working through these. If you have an existing booking we’ll be in touch with you as soon as we are able.
