COVID-19 Updates

September 21, 2020

Close Encounters and Talks resume from Tuesday 22 September.

Close Encounters and Animal Talks will be back up and running from Tuesday 22 September.

Our nocturnal house, Twilight Te Ao Māhina will be open from Tuesday, however the Giraffe deck will remain closed while work is underway on revamping our Giraffe House. Giraffe Close Encounters won't start back up again until next month.

As an outdoor space we encourage you to visit us at Wellington Zoo. As long as you are feeling healthy and well and are not in self-isolation, the Zoo is a great place to get outside and spend some time with friends, whānau and the amazing animals. We hope to see you soon!

This information is subject to change as we move through alert levels in accordance with government guidelines and requirements. Please check back here for updated information or email us if you have any questions.

Do we need to book tickets or are you open for walk ins?

Pre-bookings are not compulsory for Zoo entry. You can buy your tickets online or at the Zoo entrance. We are encouraging visitors to sign in using the NZCOVID Tracer app.

Are you accepting cash payments?

As of 22 September, we will be accepting cash.

Are your Zoo Talks on?

Visitor talks will recommence from Tuesday 22, September.

Are you still doing Close Encounters?

Close Encounters recommence from Tuesday 22, September. If your Close Encounter was cancelled due to Level 2 restrictions, you should have received a gift certificate so you can simply re-book your experience online here. If you didn't receive an email from us, please get in touch with us.

I have tried to call the Zoo, but no one is answering

We are currently fielding an extremely large volume of calls and emails, we are working through these. If you have an existing booking we’ll be in touch with you as soon as we are able.

Thank you for your patience and for bearing with us.
