Love my backyard at Wellington Zoo

21, 22 & 23 October

We’re celebrating conservation at Wellington Zoo over Labour Weekend as part of Conservation Week run by the Department of Conservation. Wellington Zoo is passionate about supporting the animals that live in our own backyard and we want to share with you ways you can help make a difference. Come and be a Vet for the day at the The Nest Kōhanga which saves hundreds of birds each year. Learn how to make your garden Gecko friendly, watch our sheep being shorn and get up close to native animals such as Wētā and Tuatara.

$1 from every entry purchased over Labour Weekend will be donated to Wellington Zoo’s Conservation Fund

*Normal Zoo admission applies.

Wellington Zoo Rangatahi Roots & Shoots programme

We are excited to launch our Rangatahi (young people) Roots & Shoots project at the Zoo. As part of our Zoo revolution, we want to engage with 12 – 15-year-olds who are passionate about the future of the planet we share. Using Dr Jane Goodall’s Root & Shoots model of engagement, Rangatahi will select an issue of concern to them and design and develop a community campaign or action, with support from our Zoo staff.

We’re looking for Rangatahi who:

  • are aged 12 to 15 years old.
  • are willing and able to commit to the programme for 1.5 hours every fortnight for Term 3; which may culminate in an activity in the October School Holidays.
  • can join our Zoo Crew which costs $39 and allows unlimited entry to the Zoo for a year .
  • have access to transport to the Zoo.
